FIGHTING/DANCING RABBITS
As a lifelong rabbit enthusiast—I’ve had bunnies without interruption since I was six years old—it was a real challenge for me not to make them look too cute. In contrast to the many adorable pictures of fuzzy bunnies online, I wanted to show the creature’s wild and vulnerable side. This throw-sized quilt shows two male rabbits Kung Fu-fighting for a female. (OK, I admit, it also looks a little bit like they are dancing.) Rabbits can get hurt badly in this mating ritual, in which they harness all their strength to punch, bite, scratch and ultimately defeat their opponent. The butterfly, carelessly floating between them, indicates the vulnerability—and possibly pleasure—that’s at play.
This hand-stitched, 100-percent-cotton quilt is about 58 x 61 inches, making it perfect as a cozy couch throw or a bed quilt for a child. It can be machine-washed and line-dried.
